Nolita ♥ ♥

"Can we have carbs?" I texted Chiz when we were scheduling our long-awaited dinner get-together.

(I've been reading everywhere about this place that serves true blue New York pizza by the slice and I wanted to try.)

"Sure! You pick the place."

(Pick the place? Ha!!! I was already picking out the different pizza slices I'm gonna order in Nolita!)

*Snickers*

IMG 5387

Nolita has that New York vibe which got me more excited about the pizzas

IMG 5389

Plus it was packed on a Wednesday night. That's always a good sign.

IMG 5393

Major decisions I had to make...

We ended up trying these four slices:

IMG 5400

Wild Mushroom Walnut Blue

IMG 5402

Wild Mushroom Walnut Ricotta

IMG 5403

Regular Cheese

IMG 5404

Pesto Grilled Chicken with Sundried Tomato

The crust was nice and chewy and toppings were aplenty, but I felt there was something missing in the pizzas.

What I enjoyed eating more were these fried appetizers (hee hee!)

IMG 5384

Beer Battered Onion Rings

IMG 5386

Honey Glazed Buffalo Wings

IMG 5407

Jeff's very healthy Grilled Chicken and Broccoli Sandwich with Parmesan Cheese
He said it was good. I am afraid of broccoli.

IMG 5406

My Cannoli
But I am not afraid of sweet ricotta cream oozing out from a crisp pastry shell sprinkled with
pistachio dust and candied orange peel. Chocolate chips inside, too! This was delightful.

IMG 5398

The real highlight of the meal for me was this tall cup of Iced Chai Latte.
I love sweetish, milky drinks!

IMG 5394

One day I'll come back for this burger and the Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

 Jeff and Chiz

After the carb-loading affair, we moved to Harvest for some Hitachino White Ale and mojito.

Congratulations, Raffy!

YUMMY EATS 2012

May 26

10am-9pm

The Rockwell Tent

See you there! :)

Hanakazu ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

IMG 4923

It's all Noel's fault.

Wagyu sashimi has been on my mind all day and all night, every hour, every minute, every second, every millisecond… you get the point.

I run to Hanakazu to keep me from going insane.

IMG 4874

Owner-Chef Otsuka and his Japanese Menu

IMG 4871

Complimentary fried tuna appetizer

IMG 4882

More complimentary appies: beef jerky, baby squid, picked cucumber

We order all sorts of food - salad, deep fried dishes, fried rice, ramen...

IMG 4885

Torikawa Salad
I got excited when I read chicken skin salad. I imagined the skin to be the fried crispy kind.
Turns out to be all soft and soggy.

IMG 4887

Kimpira Gobo

IMG 4900

Japanese Fried Oysters
We wanted to have these huge babies raw, but since they are not so fresh anymore, the chef
suggests we have them fried. Well, there's no way I'm saying no to that!

IMG 4902

Oyster innards
I find the batter a bit too thick, but love the plump and juicy filling exploding with the taste of the sea

IMG 4897

Tonkatsu Japan - tender and crispy

IMG 4903

I love the Beef Yakimeshi. So tasty and beefy!

IMG 4905

The yakimeshi also comes with a bowl of soup

IMG 4908

The Tonkotsu Ramen, however, is a huge disappointment. The noodles are springy enough
but the soup tastes instant.

The highlight of our meal at Hanakazu is...

(Drum roll, please!)

IMG 4890

This beautiful plate of superfresh sashimiiiiiiiissssssssss

IMG 4892

Wagyu Sashimi

IMG 4895

Hotate

IMG 4896

Hamachi

IMG 4893

Toro. I die.

Everything is as fresh and pristine as can be.

I'm so happy I want to cry.

IMG 4911

Complimentary watermelon triangles drizzled in sugar syrup

IMG 4910

I order UCC Iced Coffee to end the meal

IMG 4875

On the counter are these pretty little crabs flown in from Japan for your eating pleasure

IMG 4881

Next time, little darlings, next time… :)

The Fireplace at Hyatt, A Seventh Time ♥ ♥ ♥

Alex and Wally had been wanting to try the steaks at The Fireplace for quite some time.

One Monday evening it finally happened.

We didn't even know there was a foie gras festival going on!

Life's sweet surprises. :)

IMG 5041

Warm bread and superdelicious butter

IMG 5046

My favorite, the Millionaire's Salad

IMG 5043

Pan Seared Foie Gras
Honey glazed pineapple, organic green salad, balsamic vinaigrette

IMG 5049

The two boys had US Angus Ribeye Steaks, 10 oz. each

IMG 5057

I had the Trio of Duck which was good except for the over fried duck leg confit.
Crispy duck leg confit, pumpkin puree
Grilled duck breast, braised red cabbage
Pan-fried foie gras, green asparagus, port wine raspberry sauce

IMG 5059

Midway through dinner, the exhaust went bonkers and we had to evacuate the restaurant

IMG 5060

They brought us one level up

IMG 5064

And we continued enjoying our dinner at The Music Bar

IMG 5065

Alex, Me, Wally

IMG 5068

They gave us complimentary apple juice for the boo-boo

IMG 5070

And a free dessert of our choice, too.
I picked Chocolate Soup, of course!

IMG 0612

The boys loved the songs playing at the bar so they went to grab the list off The Music Bar's iMac

IMG 5071

While I stayed at the table and wiped off dessert.
Yum.
