Brickhouse ♥ ♥

We almost missed it.

DSC08634

And then I saw the green sign with an arrow directing me to the house of tacos

DSC08635

Errrrmmm… so this is Brickhouse, the sister restaurant of the dark and handsome
Blue Butcher. (See my post on the steakhouse here.)

DSC08631

The place was rowdy and noisy, it made me wanna get my hands very dirty ;)

DSC08641

Brickhouse' menu is simple and easy

Cocktail list

DSC08642

I, the diabla of all diablas, had The Diabla, a concoction of vodka, jalapeño, raspberries,
pomegranate and lemon. Not as fiery as me, but ok lah! :P
Ritchie had the Brickhouse Margarita with himalayan salt rim.

And then the hunger games began!

DIY Bone Marrow Tacos

DSC08660

As you can see, I am not one who scrimps on my taco fillings. See the fleshy peach cubes?
Those were marrow jewels. I arranged them with oxtail salsa, chimichurri, epazote roasted
tomatoes, avocados, and pungent herb salad on a corn tortilla. Delicious!
I am The Master of Taco Assembly.

Barbacoa Tacos.  Slow braised leg of goat, queso fresco, fruit and avocado salsa,
serrano pickled shallots, spanish onions, cilantro, lime, tortilla.

DSC08672

The meat looked scrumptious but didn't taste like much. It felt like eating shredded wet
cardboard sandwiched between dry cardboard.

DSC08658

We also had ribeye tacos, fish taco and shrimp taco. I didn't enjoy these as much as I did
the ones from Chicha (see post here)

DSC08645

Better than the tacos were these Mexican-Style Sweet Corn.
Rubbed with chili, mayo, lime and covered in queso, it was Cinco de Mayo in my mouth!
I hate to say best this, best that, but this really was THE BEST corn I had eaten in my life!!!

DSC08677

I know lava cakes are soooo overly overrated, but this Chili-Spiked Chocolate Cake
gave me the happies!

Thank you Paul and Ritchie for dinner! Mwah!!!

El Chupacabra ♥ ♥ ♥

As if our dinner at Donu Pork & Beef Grill wasn't substantial enough (see post here), we walked over to El Chupacabra after for some street tacos.

DSC04928

And where do you eat street tacos?

DSC04903

On the streets! Doh! :P

DSC04919

Where cars sometimes honk at you and flash their lights at you.
Do not mind them. Just keep eating.

DSC04922

There's an indoor seating area. I wish you good luck in getting a table.

I wasn't able to try all, but those that I had were very good

I will come back one day when it's not so hot and crowded so I can enjoy some quiet and quality moments with each of the 10 tacos I am planning to order.

Meanwhile, wait for Anton's post on Our Awesome Planet! :)

Hermanos Taco Shop Ӫ

IMG 0879

Sporting my new blemish-face look, I refused to go anywhere but inside a deserted taco shop beside a gas station.

IMG 0880

Even the staff seemed quite appalled to see me (Che ka rin!!!) :P

All three of us were not very hungry so we ordered a taco and a burrito to share.

IMG 0889

All-Meat Burrito - so dry and tasteless

IMG 0886

Fish Taco - blah

We took small bites of each and had the rest wrapped. Not worth the calories, but the house help would appreciate the midnight snack.

And then we decided to give Hermanos a second chance and ordered another set of taco and burrito.

Both Carnitas.

Don't ask me, not my choice.

IMG 0892

Carnitas Burrito - zzzzzzzzzzz….
Even with salsa and hot sauce, it was zzzzzzzzzzz….

IMG 0895

Carnitas Taco - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…...

IMG 0898

For the first time in a long while, eating seemed like a challenge.
Again we took a few bites only and had the rest wrapped.

All three of us decided against a third round.

IMG 0883

The best-tasting thing was my overly sweet Horchata

Achiote Taqueria ♥

IMG 0684

They wanted to go to Kuretake AGAIN.

I mean I love Kuretake and don't really mind having Japanese everyday, but the holidays left a big, fat bottomless pit in my stomach that right this minute, only a burrito can fill.

The parentals do not like Mexican food.

But I do. Hee hee.

I assured Mom it's just like Chinese lumpia.

IMG 0688

See?

IMG 0689

Achiote Chicken Burrito - signature grilled free-range chicken marinated in lime, garlic,
achiote seeds and cumin. This was quite tasty with some salsa and hot sauce.
The wrapper was thin enough but I found it a bit pasty.

IMG 0695

Chorizo Queso Torta - pork chorizo, fajita veggies, black beans, Mexican cheese mix,
achiote-chipotle salsa. The bread was really dry and stale. Salad was sweet and refreshing.

IMG 0699

Mom's favorite part of the meal was this super spicy sauce. She spooned it on everything.

IMG 0693

We also had a Verde Queso Fundido which was a mixture of spinach, garlic, artichoke
and goat cheese. It was sad and tasteless.

IMG 0700

To save it, I mixed it with some salsa and super spicy sauce

IMG 0697

I don't think they really enjoy Mexican food

IMG 0701

Thanks to my ever reliable bottomless pit, we managed not to waste anything :P

Army Navy ♥

IMG 5012

Army Navy uses coco wood for its order counter tabletop. Nice.

IMG 5015

The menu is quite easy. I know right away what I want.

IMG 5020

A burger and a burrito...
… And fries and iced tea …and a milkshake

IMG 5023

Steak Breakfast Burrito
Beef pieces are tough and chewy, quite a contrast to the soft tortilla, hash brown and scrambled egg

IMG 5027

Double Patty Burger
Tender and juicy because it's got extenders. I find it quite peppery but nothing some ketchup can't fix.
Love the bun, not really the patties.

IMG 5021

Freedom Fries
Now this one I like. Tastes like my favorite McDo Twister Fries, but this one's a lot crispier
and less greasy.

IMG 5010

I know I shouldn't, but the purple ice cream cone says "Ube" and "Must Try!"
I love these three words. And I love exclamation points!

IMG 5034

Twas alright. Just lotsa milk blended with Magnolia ube ice cream.

IMG 5036

I follow rules

IMG 5028

See, I've got my two hands full :)
