Mamou Too, Revisited ♥ ♥

IMG 3035

Yes, Mamou is ALL ABOUT STEAK.

… and truffle pasta and bottarga pasta...

BUT my date tonight doesn't eat beef (thank God, it's just my cousin and not a real date!) so we ordered other equally evil eats.

IMG 3034
Bacon Chicharon - no explanation necessary

IMG 3036
Lorenzo's Truffle Cream - creamy and earthy, always a favorite!

IMG 3040
Lamb Chops - these were a bit tough and lacking in flavor :(

IMG 3039
Corn Pudding and Creamed Spinach

IMG 3041
My date who doesn't eat beef EXCEPT when it's kobe, wagyu, or topped with foie gras

IMG 3043
The pretty manager sent over a Key Lime Pie to make up for the lamb boo-boo.
This is another one of my Mamou favorites so yay! Thank you, MM! :)
I'm happy my date is the calorie-counting type who is afraid of whipped cream.
I figured since I didn't have any steak, I could afford to finish all that schlagsahne.
And I did. Bow.

IMG 3031
Our orders were already sent in when we saw the list of new items.
OMG!!!! RB FOIE GRAS OPEN FACED SANDWICH!!!
90g of Wawa's Prime Rib doused in gravy, topped with 50g of pan seared
foie gras on buttered bun, with a choice of mashed potatoes or French fries

AWW MAN!!!!!!!

Must come back.

Makchang Korean Restaurant, Revisited ♥ ♥ ♥

I am so happy my girls finally agreed to venture out our usual Fort/Makati dinner venues and try out my favorite Korean restaurant in Manila.

Mak Chang Korean Grill Restaurant

The place has gone through expansion and renovation. When I first started coming here it was
a lot smaller and dimmer. The service is still hurried, but the food, as good as ever.

DSC01556

Bibim Naengmyun - spicy cold noodles

DSC01562

Add vinegar and mix, mix, mix! Remember, the more vinegar the tastier!

DSC01560

The cold noodles come with this cold soup that is sweet and refreshing

DSC01565

Makchang uses charcoal grill which gives meats the smoky flavor that I love in barbecues

DSC01569

You must order the Galbisal. They now use better quality beef short ribs and marinate them in
this addicting sauce that is a perfect blend of sweet and salty. If you have to order only one
meat dish in Makchang, you must go for this! If you have to order two dishes, order two of this!

DSC01566

Beef Galbi - no marinade version

DSC01568

Samkyupsal - pork belly

Here in Makchang they don't give you Korean appetizers and the little whatnots. They give you 5 things only (complimentary AND refillable, of course!)

I promise you, aside from these 5 things, you don't need anything else.

DSC01553

1. Kamote - you can eat this raw or grilled

DSC01601

2. Miso Soup

DSC01572

3. Kimchi

DSC01576

4. Scallions and bean sprouts tossed in sesame oil and chili powder. MY FAVORITE!!!!!!!
I eat this like spaghetti and always ask for my own plate to avoid World War 4 at my table.

DSC01571

5. Leaves to bundle up all that goodness, and chili to add some heat and excitement

DSC01577

Grilling time!

DSC01585

Doesn't this make you wish they'd start making those scratch-and-smell computer screens???

DSC01592

I like to eat my meat with kimchi and mounds of that chili scallion-bean sprout mix.
I alternate between lettuce and this minty shiso leaf to wrap all that Korean yumminess.

DSC01596

My idea of a super fun girls night out
Don't know if the girls had fun, but I, Jinlovestoeat, had the time of my life! :D

DSC01609

Now ready for some Hizon's grilled ensaymada!

Okay, so I was lying.

I said all you need are the 5 things I mentioned above.

But after some thought, I've decided that for the ultimate authentic Korean BBQ experience, it would be nice to have a sixth.

Like a Korean guy grilling your meats for you.

Hello there, Kim "Shiny" Han-Gyong!
(Hello, Nipple!)

Hahahahahahahaha!!!

Sorry, couldn't help it! :P

Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, A Fourth Time ♥ ♥

We always start our mornings with hot drinks.

IMG 2508

Jamie had Hazelnut Hot Chocolate aka Diabetes in a Cup

IMG 2512

Benjie had Vietnamese Latte

IMG 2509

I had Hong Kong Milk Tea, which, sadly, tasted nothing like the milk teas I love in Hong Kong.
This was too milky and lacked the bitter and intense flavor of black tea.

IMG 2505

Parmesan Churros

Photo

I dipped it in my sister's hazelnut hot choco when she was not looking! Naughty, salty and sweet!

IMG 2514

Tarte flambée with caramelized onions, blue cheese, mushrooms and arugula

IMG 2518

Macaroni and Cheese with gruyere and cheddar

IMG 2519

Steak and Eggs. Kitayama beef flat iron steak with kimchi fried rice.
MY MUST-ORDER DISH AT WILDFLOUR EVERY TIME!

IMG 2527

California Burger with cheddar, caramelized onion and brioche bun
Mom would faint if she saw how they pierced the burger with that knife!

IMG 2529

Did not taste as delicious as it looked :(

IMG 2535

Molten Chocolate Beignets, Banana Ice Cream - just okay

IMG 2530

My favorite is still this super light and creamy Peanut Butter Banana Cream Pie.
I can easily wolf down a whole pie of this!

IMG 2539

Benjie, Jamie, Me and someone who cannot be exposed on this blog

The very next day, I went back with Mother for a late lunch. We shared:

A tarte flambée with dates, caramelized onions, brie, argula

And Steak and Egg! Didn't I tell you it's my must-order at Wildflour EVERY SINGLE TIME?
We shared the kimchi rice equally and I had the beef all to myself. The perks of having
a non-beef eater mother. :)

Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, A Third Time ♥ ♥ ♥

IMG 8478

8:00am faces
I think Cyrene's son Beckham (the furry little one) was the most excited about this breakfast.

IMG 8467

Both Sanju and Lanie had the cholesterol-laden Scrambled Eggs on Toast with Smoked Salmon,
Poached Egg, and Béarnaise

IMG 8469

While the more weight-conscious Cyrene and I had the healthier option - Flat Iron Steak and
Kimchi Rice  :P  :P  :P

IMG 8472

Nothing like red meat on a bed of spicy rice topped with runny gooey egg on a Saturday morning.
It was so healthy, too! See those bits of lettuce in the kimchi rice and look at all those chopped
green onions!

We couldn't get enough of vegetables, so we had it again for dessert!

IMG 8477

Pumpkin Pie. This was amazing.

I think I can start becoming a vegetarian right away tomorrow.

IMG 8479

Beckham's breakfast

To reward my efforts at this new healthy lifestyle, I bought two pieces of bread for my mid-morning snack.

IMG 8480

Hazelnut Bombolini

IMG 8492

I found this somewhat disturbing-looking bombolini too greasy.
I broke it in half and licked all the nutella.

IMG 7469

Cranberry Walnut Bread

IMG 7472

This was the bomb! I couldn't stop pinching and eating.

IMG 7478

It was loaded with fruits and nuts, too. Another very healthy indulgence for me. Yay! :)
