My dream is to go on a romantic date at Impressions, like this couple on the left who looked
longingly into each other's eyes all night, and the couple in the middle who fed each other food.
Actually, my dream is to have someone feed me food all night and admire me and tell me
how perfect and, most importantly, how thin I am.
Last Tuesday's dinner was to celebrate Florence's 24th birthday. Her theme was The Great Gatsby.

Florence chose two different menus so we could try more dishes. I am so happy she granted my
special request to include my Impressions favorites: Tartine Iodee, Roasted Lamb Rack, and
Tentation du Chocolat. Actually, it wasn't a very gentle request. I gave her strict instructions.
The breads were fantastic as always. I had to stop myself after the second baguette.
So thrilled to see Chef Cyrille personally attending to our food. With him in the kitchen,
there is a guarantee of heaven on our plates. :)
Tartine Iodee of Sea Urchin, Scallop and Oyster, Assorted Cress with Sea Urchin Parfait in
Cucumber. The fresh, briny, creamy, exquisite taste of the whole ocean on a toast.
The best of the best!
Carpaccio of Crusted Lamb Loin with Truffle Honey and Goat Cheese, Arugula Salad.
Gamey, earthy, peppery, creamy, sweet and tangy, this was another winner.
The soups are poured tableside. Don't eat the scallop just yet!
Seared Scallops, Crispy Chicken Skin, Bonito Broth Consomme with Miso Vaporized Oyster.
The simple-looking clear broth packed intense flavors.
Green Pea Mousseline, Creamy Chanterelle Broth.
So earthy and velvety, I say this is THE mushroom soup of all mushroom soups. Must order!
Roasted Duck Breast, Duck Liver Tourte, Fricassee of Seasoned Mushrooms and Vegetables,
Fresh Herbs Roasted Lamb Rack, Lamb Shoulder Confit coated with Pistachio
and Dried Apricot, Green Pea Tortellini of Goat Cheese, Sauteed Romaine Salad,
Mustard Seed Lamb Jus. I don't know how it's possible, but my favorite entree
at Impressions tasted even better than I remembered!

My "Seven Deadly Sins" dessert was all melted when I returned to my seat.

The evening's revelation came in the form of this dessert. Crispy Apple, Heart of Salted Caramel,
Creme Anglaise, White Chocolate Sauce, Vanilla and Salted Caramel Ice Cream.
I am not a fan of fruit desserts, but man, this apple-salted caramel number almost brought
me to tears. I ate more than my share before I passed what's left of it to Frances.

Of course, it is not a Fatterside birthday if we didn't have more than three cakes

Hi to the very nice and thoughtful Dr. and Mrs. Ramos who were also dining at Impressions that
evening. They enjoyed their meal at Shaw's Crab House in Chicago (yay!!!) and wanted to
thank me for writing about it. It's always a treat to meet fellow food lovers! :)

I really enjoy eating at Impressions with my family, but the next time I come here, I promise it will be with a date.
