Champetre, Revisited ♥ ♥ ♥

champetre

It feels almost like a sin to do a repeat on a restaurant in such a short time when there are so many other dining establishments I haven’t yet tried. Do you know that restaurants sometimes talk to me? Yes, they whisper in my head, fighting for my attention. “Try me! Try me!” one will say. “No, try ME! I’m the newest Italian in the city,” the other will argue.

I’ve talked to my psychiatrist. I am not demented.

She said it’s a food blogger thing.

Tonight I fight off all the restaurant voices in my head and walk in the same French bistro for the second time in two weeks. I was so happy with my last meal at Champetre that I just have to come back and try all the other dishes, plus desserts.

Gratinated French Onion Soup – I really wanted to try the other soups, but finally, the onion soup wins again. This is even more delicious than the last time, if that is even possible.

Baked Escargots Bourguignon with Garlic Bread – yummy snails with yummy crusty
bread to sop up all that yummy sauce

We wanted to try the Black Angus Ribeye and Veal Cheeks Bourguignon, but both are not available tonight. I hear my heart break.Broken heart

We just order the next best thing our waiter recommends.

Roasted Chilean Sea Bass with Stewed Lentils and Meat Jus – I am not so sure about my feelings towards the legumes, but my feelings towards the super moist and tender sea bass
is a feeling of bitin-ness. Takes me but two bites to finish the whole piece. I need more!

Beef Brisket Bourguignon with Cauliflower Gratin – the sauce is super tasty but the
beef could be more tender. Most pieces are hard and dry, like they’ve been reheated
in the microwave repeatedly. My favorite is the cauliflower gratin. It is love.

Fresh Mango Mille-Feuilles with Coconut Cream and Sauce -
The sweetest mango, the lightest puff pastry and richest coconut cream make
this dessert simply amazing.

Buttered Dark Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Tuiles -
Butter, dark chocolate, and hazelnut tuiles… Really, need I say more?
Many times I have to stop myself from licking the bowl.

Our bottle for the night, Kaapzicht Classic Red 2007
