Casa Roces ♥

IMG 8818

It used to be the Roces' ancestral home, until the family decided to turn it into a restaurant
showcasing classic and contemporary Filipino and Spanish cuisines

The Whole Menu.
Yes, I think we ordered almost everything on it!

Except for the al dente palabok which I really liked, and the salmon wellington which I very much disliked, everything else was pretty standard.

IMG 8826

Sopa Molo Castiliana - garlic soup with deep fried pork dumpling, poached egg and parsley

IMG 8828

Truffle Mushroom Puree - thick and creamy soup made from a trio of fresh mushrooms and
drizzled with truffle oil

IMG 8833

Onion Soup Gratinee - sweet onions in a flavorful broth topped with baked gruyere caramelized
crouton

IMG 8830

Vigan Empanada

IMG 8844

Some kind of turnover, maybe tuna

IMG 8856

Warm Breaded Goat Cheese Salad - pan fried goat cheese with arugula and mesclun

IMG 8837

Pork Belly Humba - pork belly stew with banana blossoms, peanuts and fermented black beans

IMG 8839

Pancit Palabok - rice noodles with savory shrimp sauce, smoked fish flakes topped with
pork cracklings. Loved this!

Bulalo Steak a la Pobre - pan seared tender beef shank topped with fried garlic

IMG 8841

Roasted Chicken Inasal - grilled lemongrass-flavored chicken quarters with annatto oil

Ox Tail Kare-Kare - braised ox tail in peanut sauce with vegetables and sauteed shrimp paste

Pork Stew Binagoongan - crunchy pork belly with string beans and cherry tomatoes
sauteed in shrimp paste

Spices at The Peninsula ♥ ♥

IMG 7281

He brought me to Spices, an old favorite, for dinner.

I was excited to order the Goa Vindaloo, a Spices specialty of spicy hot and sour lamb curry with peppercorns.

But I had to be polite.

Jin: Do you eat spicy food?

Guy: Umm… Not really...

Jin: How come?

Guy: Because if I eat spicy food I will start sweating.

Jin: Oh. Pero may aircon naman dito eh!

IMG 7283

Yam Pla Duk Fu - crispy catfish salad with green mango, lime and shallots.
Beautiful flavors, whets the appetite.

So we ended up ordering milder dishes.

IMG 7290

Nali Rogan Josh - aromatic lamb shank cooked in Kashmiri dried chilies and clarified butter.
The curry was okay, but the meat was sooooo tough!

IMG 7287

Pla Rad Phrik - deep fried codfish with sweet and spicy ginger sauce.
In our case, it was just sweet ginger sauce, hehehe :)

IMG 7285

Thai Iced Tea

Guy: Shall we order dessert?

Jin: (Scanning the menu and eyeing the Chocolate Ginger Tart with Coconut Ice Cream) YES, OF COURSE! Do you have any preference?

Guy: The lighter-colored, the better. I don't really like dark-colored desserts.

Homaygoddddd!!!

Good thing I remembered The Peninsula makes a good King Oscar. We asked the waiter to order a slice from the hotel pastry shop.

IMG 7295

King Oscar - as delicious as I remembered it to be

Light-colored desserts are not so bad after all. Plus, I still got my dark-colored "cherry" on top. :)

Old Swiss Inn, A Fourth Time ♥ ♥ ♥

IMG 5386

Open 24 hours, Old Swiss Inn is my favorite late night go-to place.

Sandwich oozing with cheese and dunked in hearty goulash is, in my books, the perfect night cap. Non-believers, please click here.

Sometimes it's good to go before the clock strikes twelve. You can eat more and feel less guilty.

My Old Swiss Inn winners are:

IMG 5357

Barley Soup - creamy barley with brunoise vegetables, dried beef and smoked bacon

IMG 5358

Goulash - hearty soup spiced with paprika, with lashings of beef and vegetables

IMG 5360

Raclette - my stinky bliss!

IMG 5362

It was a beautiful marriage between the cheese and fig jam

IMG 3319

Walliser Fondue - made with Swiss wine, gruyere, emmenthal and raclette cheeses
and fresh tomatoes, served with baby potatoes, vegetables and crunchy bread

IMG 5364

Zurich Geschnetzeltes - shredded pork tenderloin in mushroom cream sauce
served with roesti potatoes

IMG 3354

Filipino Roesti - with crumbled longganisa and sunny side up egg

IMG 7255

Gnagi - cured pork knuckles, baked and served with roesti potatoes

IMG 5369

US Black Angus Prime Rib, 500g, medium rare

IMG 5370

And of course, Angus Rice

IMG 5367

Pre-dessert. Auntie Babyruth loves their ube lengua.

IMG 5379

For the main event, Dark Toblerone Chocolate Fondue.
I snubbed the fruits and marshmallows and flirted with something yummier...

IMG 5376

Homemade peanut butter toblerone cookies!

IMG 5380

Dip it in melted dark chocolate

IMG 5384

Sprinkle with salt, close your eyes and moan with pleasure

Old Swiss Inn does almost everything right.

Almost.

IMG 8386

Just don't let them write on your parents' anniversary cake!

IMG 8379

Toblerone Cheesecake. Hee hee hee. :P
