The Big Bite ♥ ♥ ♥

 

It is not true that only men love their burgers. Healthy, hearty and meaty women like me and my cousin Ritchie do, too. And we travel all the way to the opposite end of the purple line just for the good stuff. The Big Bite good stuff.

 

 

A tiny joint hidden in the back streets of North Point, The Big Bite is very easy to miss. But once you find it, it’s gonna be very hard to not miss it.

 

 

The choices here are not as extensive as other burger places, but where there are mushrooms, there is a satisfied Jin.

 Bak Goo – Mushroom Burger

And very satisfied Jin is! Here at The Big Bite, you can specify how you want your meat done. Because they cook the patty as you order it, a bit of a wait is expected, but my, how you will be rewarded! I ask for medium rare, and they give me medium rare. Thick, tender  and juicy patty on a bed of mushrooms and gravy, and all that wonderful beefy juices oozing out with each forkful, I would give absolutely anything to trade places with that soggy bottom bun!  And those buns… please do not get me started on them Big Bite buns. They are not the usual soft and mushy ones you get out there. These buns are toasted perfectly, with the outer layer a bit grainy, a bit crisp, a bit sweet.

 

Cheese Burger 

Ritchie wants to order the Classic Burger. Gasp!!! Like a mom who catches her child red-handed, I scowl deeply at her and nag her into ordering the cheese burger. After all, what is a burger without the cheese??? And ain’t it a beauty?

We order a side of chili to go with our burgers. I pour some on mine. Sloppy Joe Mushroom Burger. Yummm. A REAL burger. For REAL women. Healthy, hearty, meaty women. I am sorry, but Big Bite burgers are just not for sissies.

Italian Aperitivo at The Lounge ♥

 

 

It is only when I stumbled upon The Lounge’s Spanish Aperitivo ad that I realize I haven’t written about the Italian version we had there a couple of months back. Ok, ok, it was half a year ago. Cut the delinquent blogger some slack.

On the buffet spread are were bruschetta, mozzarella tomato salad, olives, assortment of cheeses, salami, prosciutto, stuffed peppers, sundried tomatoes, focaccia, etc. etc. No surprises, just the usual suspects.

 

 

The antipasti buffet comes came with a drink of your choice, too.

 

 

The food was just okay, there is much room for improvement in terms of quality and selection. But to be in the company of good friends after a day at work and at HK$168+ only, who’s complaining?

Nathaniel’s Buko Pandan ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Dear Nathaniel,

Thank you so much for finally coming to Manila, and thus sparing everyone the 3-hour drive to Pampanga and  another 3 coming back whenever I visit home, just to accommodate one of the endless food requests of my hopelessly gluttonous self.

Please do not be put off by the tacky packaging, what’s inside has got to be the most delicious coconut concoction in the world. How something so simple and straightforward as coconut, pandan jelly and cream can bring that million dollar smile to my face just amazes me. Nathaniel, you are truly amazing!

 

Sometimes I eat it frozen…

 

Sometimes I wait for it to thaw… (warning: 10 minutes may feel like 10 years)

 

Either way, not one morsel of coconut, not one bit of pandan jelly, and not one drop of cream in this half gallon tub is safe from me.

Each time.

In 20 minutes, tops.
