Delicious Kitchen, Revisited ♥ ♥

IMG 8219

Quick lunch together before everybody disappeared for the day

IMG 8222

We each had a bowl of our Delicious Kitchen staple - Pork Chop with Vegetable Rice.
The fried sweetish pork always hits the spot.

For sharing:

IMG 8230

Braised Beef Tendon Nanjing Style. Sticky, slimy, gooey goodness. This is the bomb!

Beef Tendon Noodle Soup

Fried Wonton

IMG 8235

Sea Blubber

Nobu ♥ ♥

Achi Donna texted, "I'm on my way. Order na kayo. Beef but not kobe, unaju, california maki, etc. etc."

Errr… anobaaaahhh??? We did not travel all the way to Hong Kong to eat what you can easily get in Saisaki.

IMG 8152

We arrived early for our 8pm reservation and got some cocktails from the bar

Nobu

Dry Martini, Lychee Martini, Pineapple Martini (?), Strawberry Daiquiri

IMG 8158

Some chips, too

IMG 8154

Nobu's main dining room is dim and noisy. Last time I was here for dinner, I almost lost my voice.

IMG 8169

Luckily, they gave us a private room this time (and I mean lucky for them)
With us in the house, the room became one big jungle. This was our ooh-la-la harbor view.

We were feeling a bit indulgent and ordered the Winter Omakase. (Yes, Achi Donna included.)

IMG 8176

Toro tartare with caviar in wasabi soy sauce. Yamamomo to finish. This was my favorite course.
And everyone else's, too, judging from the unusual silence and then all the moaning.

IMG 8180

Sanma fish with dried miso in olive oil and lemon

IMG 8181

Baby tuna with bonito and jalapeno. Love the fresh, clean flavors.

IMG 8185

Ankimo (monkfish liver) with Japanese mustard miso sauce. My next favorite.
(Achi Donna: Ang sarap ng sauce! Lasang peanut butter!)

IMG 8186

Anago tempura with sweet vinegar. This was so ordinary and so boring
I almost fell asleep on my plate.

IMG 8190

Chilean sea bass, foie gras with shiso leaf in teriyaki sauce. The foie gras was perfect,
but my fish was overcooked.

IMG 8193

Japanese A5 kobe beef with wasabi salsa and yuzu soy. The texture was beautiful. I wish they put
the wasabi salsa on the side. It overpowered the flavor of the beef.

IMG 8191

The non-beef eaters had seafood sukiyaki with sake soy sauce

IMG 8198

Clam soup

IMG 8199

Sushi: toro, botan ebi, hotate, sanma, uni

IMG 8200

Check out the marbling on the toro!

IMG 8205

The uni was so creamy and buttery

I was wowed by the first 2 courses, and then the meal seemed to go a bit downhill from there.

But nothing could have prepared me for what came next.

The most important course of every meal for me. The dessert.

They served us...

IMG 8213

Seasonal fruits with melon sorbet. WHAT THE EFFFFFFFFF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Being served a fruit platter (or bowl) for dessert is my worst ever nightmare, and I couldn't
believe it was happening to me in Nobu. Except for that one piece of grape,
the fruits were not even from Japan! Kiwi, orange, strawberry, cantaloupe, and
dragon fruit (dragonfly according to Achi Donna)

IMG 8214

That's her with the scarf :D

Two hearts because the dessert ruined it for me. It was a traumatizing experience, until now I still can't get over it.

Next time when a restaurant asks about dietary restrictions, I will say I am allergic to fruits!

BLT Steak, Revisited ♥ ♥

IMG 8114

AND FINALLY, I got to catch Ahia Emil in Hong Kong. As soon as I landed Chek Lap Kok, I got an invitation to lunch. I love you, Facebook!

I love you, too, Ahia Emil! Hehehe :)

After dropping off my bags at the hotel, I rushed to BLT Steak in Harbour City.

And all this was waiting for me:

IMG 8118

Unlimited appetizers and salads

IMG 8122

Prosciutto with melon, deviled eggs, etc. etc. etc. There was also a prime rib carving station.

IMG 8126

Popovers

IMG 8124

My appetizer plate

IMG 8127

The carnivores ordered the USDA Hangar Steak with mustard-citrus mayonnaise
and three-minute egg. It was a perfect medium, tender, but could be more flavorful.
I should know, I stole 2 pieces from my neighbors's plate :P

IMG 8131

The health buffs ordered Lemon Rosemary Chicken in herb jus

IMG 8141

And I had the BLT Burger, medium rare

IMG 8140

Hello, handsome!

IMG 8142

It was good, but not incredible. The patty was a bit crumbly, and the upper bun was too thick.

IMG 8145

I also had a serving of prime rib and ate it smothered with creamy shiitake mushroom

IMG 8147

The dessert buffet left a lot to be desired

IMG 8150

But still I took advantage. I need to eat sweets after every meal. Or else I'll die.

IMG 8137

Thank you, Ahia Emil and Dong! :)

Marco Polo Gateway Hotel Hong Kong ♥ ♥

Check out the newly renovated Marco Polo Gateway.

So new that the hotel still smelled of paint when we checked in.

I have to admit though, I loved the simple and modern design.

Hotel lobby

Big and bold lighting fixture

IMG 8100
Pretty blooms in Jinlovestoeat color! :)

IMG 8104
More splashes of color by the wall

IMG 8103
The elevator system needs improvement. All the lights were on so you could never
tell which door was going to open. Every time I needed to go up or down it felt like
the lifts were playing hide and seek with me.

IMG 8113
Toilet and tub. I found the bathtub too narrow (or maybe I'm just too wide haha)

IMG 8246
Our rooms included access to The Continental Club

IMG 8241
Where guests enjoy complimentary afternoon tea buffet

IMG 8240
There was a nice selection of sushi, antipasti, breads, salads, cheeses, and sweets

IMG 8244
Also a whole leg of jamon ready for carving

One afternoon we decided to have afternoon tea, which continued on to happy hour, which continued on to the cancellation of our roast goose dinner.

These plates were all mine, and I ate them in this exact order. :P

Our rooms also included breakfast, but we never woke up early enough! :P
