Thanks to Karen, I got seats for the preview of the Broadway hit “Defending the Caveman.” This one-man show has been performed in over 30 different languages, seen by more than 8 million people in 45 countries around the world. And no wonder, this comedy is about the differences between men and women, a topic people from all over the universe loves.
I ask my constant date nowadays – my cousin Frances and my co-founder in The Spinster Sisters Club – to come watch with me. We’re kind of exclusively dating until someone of the opposite gender comes along and sweeps us off our feet. (With me being 40lbs. overweight, it’s gonna take a macho man!)
But first, some snack.
I am starving to death when we arrive at the venue. Thank God there’s a Ministop right in front of the building.
Microwavable Stuffed Pandesal
The Cheezy Ham PandePalaman is actually pretty okay. That or I’m just really hungry.
The set at the rehearsal studio. It’s gonna be way prettier at RCBC.
The 90-minute show is quite entertaining. It makes you laugh, think, realize things, and understand the opposite sex more. I find myself chuckling and nodding in agreement quite a few times, and I find Frances giggling and nodding in fascination, deeply mesmerized by Joel Trinidad, the star of the show. Yihee!
On not understanding women: “They had a rope and didn’t think to tie anyone up?!?!”
“A man thinks more clearly when he is standing in the Circle of Sacred Underwear”
“There are two genders. Women and Assholes.”
“When a guy watches TV, he doesn’t just watch the TV, he goes into the TV. The guy and the TV, they are ONE.”
“My wife can wander in the mall all day long and she seems to get stronger as the day goes along.”
These are just a few lines I love. Watch it and bring the men in your lives.
And then it’s time for dinner. Circles again and again.
Tuesday night is Italian night
Salamis
Lamb rack in herbs crust, roasted for 6 hours
Porchetta
Cheeses and Italians. But you can only eat the cheeses, not the Italians.
My 1st plate. I love Japanese.
My 2nd plate. I love Indian, Middle Eastern and Italian.
My 3rd plate. I just love meat.
Frances’s ravioli. I steal a piece.
Homemade ube and yogurt ice cream for my dessert
Of course I don’t stop at just ice cream. I also have cheese, tiramisu, flourless chocolate cake, mangoes and tres leches. But no Italians. Boo.
My gwama mistakes this bowl of ice cream for siopao
I think we are the real siopaos. Mom, Frances, Me.
